Entry To Health Services
The number one factor women can do to keep up their health and preserve disease at bay is exercise each day,” says Molly Brewer, chair of the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UConn Health. After conducting a bit of more research I can now present a bit more background to Andrew Logan, as promised. In 1948, Logan was appointed to establish the unit for cardiac and thoracic surgical procedure on the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. It was around this time that rheumatic fever was prevalent, leading to progressive harm to coronary heart valves, significantly mitral valves. Many younger and middle aged sufferers died from unrelieved congestion of the lungs. In response to this, Logan pioneered using a trans-ventricular mitral valve dilator for mitral stenosis. This methodology proved very successful and that is mirrored within the case notes. The vast majority of the case notes related to mitral valve stenosis patients and the overwhelming majority seem to have survived the process.
Quick forward two decades later to between 1998 and 2001, when the contributors underwent neurological assessments and MRI mind scans. It was found that those that had lower fitness levels were more more likely to have smaller brains after 20 years. On average, total mind volume shrank by around 0.2 per cent annually, with these much less fit in their 30s and 40s’ brains shrinking sooner. This is stated to be because conserving fit reduces blood stress, thus leading to less pressure on the brain. The brain getting smaller can lead to early cognitive decline, dementia and premature death, and specialists consider a sedentary lifestyle accelerates a person’s ageing process.
